Signed picture of John Ryden the Accrington Stanley footballer.

John Ryden. This is a postcard size black & white picture of John Ryden the former Accrington Stanley footballer. This picture is taken from a Charles Buchan football magazine of the time and has a nice example of a typical John Ryden autograph in fine blue ink. Ryden began his career at non-League club Duntocher Hibernian in Scotland before signing for Alloa Athletic on 13 May 1950.The strong tackling, uncompromising, centre half made 108 appearances in all competitions and scored 13 goals in three seasons. In February 1954 he joined Accrington Stanley in a £1,000 transfer deal where he scored once in 80 matches. I would suggest given the reasonably short time Ryden was at Stanley this is quite a rare signed picture of him the Accrington Stanley kit. Good collectors' piece. Tottenham Hotspur paid £10,000 for his services in November 1955. John Ryden died on 16 August 2013 at his home aged 82.
