Signed picture of Dennis Evans the Arsenal footballer.

Dennis Evans. This is a fabulous near A4 size black and white action picture of Dennis Evans the Arsenal footballer. This picture is taken from an edition of the Charles Buchan or similar football book of the time and shows Evans in a battle with the great Stanley Mathews. This item is in a reasonable condition given that it is over 50 years old! Dennis Evans has provided a fine example of his signature in blue in ink. Dennis Evans played 207 games for the Gunners between 1951and 1963 scoring 12 goals. . Evans scored one of the most memorable own goals in football history; towards the end of a match against Blackpool on 17 December 1955, which Arsenal were winning 4-0, Evans heard a whistle from the crowd, and mistakenly thought the referee had blown for full-time. He kicked the ball in triumph, which ended up flying past Arsenal goalkeeper Con Sullivan and into his own net; the goal stood but Arsenal held on to win 4-1. Dennis passed away in February 2000 aged 69 years. Very nice piece of Arsenal memorabilia.
